Seven ways to beat the stress of the two-week wait
The stretch between the transfer and the blood test is a restless one
After the transfer, before the pregnancy blood test — some doctors say seven days, some ten, some fourteen. What is the same for everyone is that by the time test day arrives, you have probably felt excitement, stress and worry, all taking turns. The waiting is restless. You worry back and forth, you think it over and over: is my endometrium good enough? The doctor said the embryo was middling — will it implant?
Stop there! What I want to say is that sitting and turning it over and over only gives you a headache and stress for nothing — and you still will not have the answer until the day of the blood test, will you?
So today I have seven techniques for you, to take the edge off the stress while you wait for the result.
- Do the things you like.
- Go and do something creative — drawing, dancing, pottery, and so on.
- Spend time doing things together with your husband.
- Spend time chatting with the people you feel good after talking to.
- Find people to lean on who have a problem like yours — a meet-up of an infertility group, or the various pages online.
- Practise techniques that help you relax — sitting in meditation, for instance.
- Write the questions that keep going round in your head down on paper, so you do not have to keep asking yourself the same thing over and over in there.
With love — Dr. Patsama Vichinsartvichai
